Palancas Negras' chances of participating in the South Africa extravaganza looked slim after they went down 3-1 to the Warriors in Harare in the first-leg of the second-round qualifier.
An own goal by Mateus and a goal apiece from Ajax Cape Town winger Khama Billiat and Archieford Gutu put Zimbabwe 3-0 up after 33 minutes. Second-half substitute Djalma pulled one back for the visitors for what would prove to be the decisive away goal.
Gustavo Ferrin's men bounced back in style in the second-leg on home soil, battling to a 2-0 victory, with Manucho grabbing a brace as Angola prevailed on an away goals rule after a 3-3 aggregate draw.
