The Brazilians headed into the match on the back of two wins and a draw since the former Bafana Bafana tactician succeeded Johan Neeskens, and although they were unable to end the year with three points, they will still be pleased with their turn-around.

The result left Downs 10th in the standings with 18 points from their opening 16 matches, while Chippa remain in the relegation zone, one point ahead of basement side AmaZulu.

The Chilli Boys opened the scoring after 29 minutes as Welcome Qalanto headed home from a free-kick, but Wayne Arendse replied in kind in the second period to earn the Brazilians a point.

The hosts tested Wayne Sandilands as early as the seventh minute as William Twala unleashed at goal, but the keeper made a decent save to parry the ball away to safety.

The Brazilians muster their first real chance at goal midway through the first-period, but Eleazar Rodgers' shot was quickly closed down and the defence did well to get a block in.

Just before the half-hour mark Farouk Abrahams' men stormed into the lead, Robert Tomanyane's free-kick finding the head of Qalanto, who duly headed home from close-range.

The Chloorkop giants began plugging away for an equaliser, but Elias Pelembe was wasteful as he fired wide of the goal from inside the area, while Tsholofelo Modise's drilled effort crashed off the crossbar.

However, midway through the second period Mosimane's men grabbed leveller, Richard Henyekane's corner picking out Arendse at the far-post, with the former Santos man duly nodding home from close range.
