James Nandwa has already been roped in as caretaker coach ahead of the Harambee Stars' return leg of the African Nations Championship against Burundi in Nairobi on January 5.
The 65-year-old Frenchman, who was contracted to Kenya for four years, was not in attendance to lead his side at the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda last month.
He was also conspicuous by his absence for the African Nations Championships preliminary round, first-leg match against Burundi in Bujumbura this weekend.
A brief press release issued by the French Embassy on Michel's behalf said: "To cut short to all the interpretations based on misinformation recently published in the Kenya press, I would like to clarify that I could not find an amicable agreement within the deadlines regarding my compliance with several provisions of the contract.
"Therefore I decided to stop working with the Kenya Football Federation (FKF) by registered letter dated 10.12.2012.
"From today, I will not disclose more on this matter, if not by available legal means."
Michel, who has previously coached France, Cameroon, Tunisia as well as the Ivory Coast, failed to secure a win in his short time as Kenya boss, guiding his side to international friendly defeats to South Africa (2-1) and Tanzania (1-0).
Nandwa has, meanwhile, called up Gor Mahia striker Rama Salim and defender David Owino, Paul Were of AFC Leopards and Tusker's Peter Opiyo for the clash with Burundi hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit.
