Johnson has guided the North West outfit to third in the Premiership standings, three points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs, while they top the Q-Innovations Q-2 table after winning five of their last six matches.

Botes, who has been one of the in-form players this term with five goals to his name so far, believes a huge amount of credit is due to Johnson for guiding the team to such lofty heights.

"He's obviously a great coach and knows his football very well. He also got a very important knowledge on how to handle young players having worked with them in our development before," the striker told Football411.

"He made sure we have a good mix of youth and experience and so far he's excelled in making the most of it. The results are there and stats never lie.

"We're moving in the right direction but we definitely won't be getting carried as we take each game as it comes."

On his current form, the 32-year-old added: "Obviously at my age any striker would be satisfied. I'm happy with performances but individual brilliance is not my agenda, so everything I do, I do with the aim of benefiting Platinum Stars.

When asked about his ambitions to finish the season as the Golden Boot winner, he added: "I know I'm not far apart from the current top goal scorers. As a striker my job is to score goals and I'm happy to have been doing that. But I'm not even thinking about that (being a top goal scorer) because I bring more than just goals to this team."

The veteran frontman is also relishing the chance to help educate the younger squad members, adding: "To the youngsters I have to be a mentor, and on the field of play my job is doubled because I have to play two positions. I play as an old typical number-9 and in some moments I have to be modern."
