The only goal of the game came midway through the first half and was scored by Katlego Mphela, the Bafana Bafana striker marking his return from injury in the best possible fashion.

That goal was the first real chance of what had been a tight first period.

It came from a Nyasha Mushekwi break down the left wing, the Zimbabwean's cross taking a deflection and sitting up nicely for Mphela to head home from eight yards out.

Mushekwi could have added a second goal ten minutes later, but his shot was blocked by Leopards keeper Mtshali.

The visitors' first proper opportunity arrived three minutes before the half-time break, but Raymond Monama was unable to pick out Rodney Ramagalela in the box.

The Brazilians had the first chance of the second half when Anthony Laffor's cross located Mushekwi, but his header missed the target, as did his effort a few minutes later from Elias Pelembe's delivery.

Midway through the second half and Downs should have added a second goal as Teko Modise played in Laffor, but the Liberian international put his shot just wide.

Leopards had one further chance to share the spoils, but Mongezi Bobe's shot from 20-yards out was well saved by Wayne Sandilands as the Sundowns revival continued to pick up some momentum.
