Ashley Hartog gave Matsatsantsa a sixth-minute lead with Nathan Paulse bagging his first goal of the season in the 51st minute.

Katlego Mashego got his side back into the tie when he netted a 57th-minute penalty but George Maluleka restored the two-goal advantage when he scored a minute later.

United moved onto 17 points while Swallows dropped a place into 12, with 14 points from 14 matches, following Ajax Cape Town's narrow 1-0 win over Maritzburg United, played at the same time.

Calls for Dube Birds boss Zeca Marques could be clearly heard from the stands after the match as his out-of-sorts side slumped to their fourth consecutive league loss.

The hosts had begun poorly with Paulse forcing Aubrey Mathibe into a diving save in the opening minutes before Kermit Erasmus tested Mathibe with a close range effort that the keeper was able to hold on to.

But Hartog exploited some dire defending to open the scoring following some route one football. SuperSport keeper Ronwen Williams hoofed the ball upfield that was completely misjudged by the Swallows defence. They allowed Sameehg Doutie to pick up the loose ball on the right of the box before laying it on a plate for an unmarked Hartog to smash home into an unguarded net.

Swallows were not without their chances though with Williams forced to tip the ball over his goal from a 14th-minute Mashego free-kick.

Williams then got down well at his near post to deny a close-range Mashego shot in the 26th minute, however, SuperSport doubled their lead through an expertly taken Paulse goal just six minutes into the second half.

The 30-year-old former Ajax and Platinum Stars striker showed a deft piece of skill to pluck a long ball out of the air with his right foot before swiveling towards goal, and after holding off a defender, placed the ball into the bottom-right hand corner of the net with his left foot,

A clearly demoralised Swallows pulled a goal back with a well-taken Mashego spot-kick after Thabo September was adjudged to have handled in the area box.

But it was to prove to be a mere consolation with Maluleka delightfully chipping the ball over an onrushing Mathibe after latching onto an inch-perfect cross.
