Johnson: Grinding out results

Platinum Stars will be hoping for the chance to leap frog Orlando Pirates into second place in the PSL standings when they host Golden Arrows on Saturday evening.

The Buccaneers currently lead third-placed Dikwena by two points, but take on Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby a few hours earlier.

A defeat, or even a draw for the Sea Robbers in that match, would open the door for Dinaledi to climb into the runners-up spot, although if Pirates manage a point, Stars would need to win their encounter by four goals or more to overtake them on goal difference.

Arrows, meanwhile, will be after the three points for a very different reason, with Manqoba Mngqithi's side currently 12th in the standings and just two points above the drop zone.

Abafana Bes'thende did, however, manage victory in their last outing, a 2-0 success over Moroka Swallows on Wednesday, while another three points this weekend would go a long way in easing the Lamontville outfit's relegation fears.

In team news, Sibusiso Msomi will be missing for Cavin Johnson as he is suspended, while Robert Ng'ambi and Henrico Botes are both just one booking away from picking up one-match bans.

Golden Arrows, meanwhile, have no suspension concerns to deal with, but Norman Smith and Philani Shange will have to tread carefully as both are one booking away from an automatic one-match ban.
