Mahlatse Maake broke the deadlock for Lidoda Duvha seven minutes before half-time, but an own-goal by home goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali early in the second half gave Usuthu a share of the spoils.

It was Craig Roslee's first match in charge of the Durban outfit and he will have been happy to have come away from the Peter Mokaba Stadium with a point, which moves his side level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns, who played out to a goalless draw with Free State Stars on the same night.

Leopards dominated proceedings but failed to trouble visiting goalkeeper Philani Zikalala until the 39th minute when Maake found the back of the net from close range.

Rodney Ramagalela had a chance to extend their lead just before the break, but his shot from the penalty spot failed to test Zikalala.

AmaZulu were given a reprieve just 10 minutes after the restart through fortunate circumstances.

Ayanda Dlamini fired in a shot that Mtshali attempted to block, but he only succeeded in turning the ball into his own net.

In the end Usuthu managed to hold on for a valuable point and within touching distance of safety, with 14th-placed Chippa United just one point better off following their goalless draw against Orlando Pirates.
