Mngqithi: Proud of defence

Goals from Musa Bilankulu and substitute Mxolisi Macuphu helped Mngqithi's side overcome the struggling Dube Birds who went down to ten men just before the hour mark.

The win represented the breaking of a four-match winless streak for Abafana Bes'thende and saw them move up into 12th place in the PSL standings.

And Mngqithi thought his side should have scored more goals but was happy with the defensive grit they displayed to keep Swallows' star-studded attackers at bay.

"We dominated the game, but were scrappy in the final third," Mngqithi said after the game.

"We had many opportunities, but unfortunately we didn't utilise the chances we had and made it very difficult for ourselves.

"When we were leading 1-0, it looked like we could have thrown it all away. But fortunately we were able to keep them out and our goalkeeper and defenders did very well in that regard.

"The biggest challenge that we've had to overcome in recent weeks was to work harder on our defensive play.

"I knew the goals would come at some point. But not conceding here was very good on our part."
