Celtic, fresh off their Telkom Knockout final win, went behind in the early stages of the second half thanks to a goal from United's Ashley Hartog.

But Phunya Sele Sele managed to pull one back in the final minute, albeit via a Thabo September own-goal, to salvage a draw.

Despite narrowly escaping defeat, Larsen was happy with the character Siwelele showed during a difficult match.

"Once again, my players showed character. We never stopped trying. We weren't at our best tonight, but we came up against a very good outfit," he said in his post-match summation.

"The players fought gallantly and I thought it was a great ball in at the end and the defender had to put his head there and eventually something had to give."

Larsen was also thankful that his side didn't lose their first match after their Ziwa Mo triumph on Saturday.

He added: "We had two days to rest after the final. It showed in the first half: the players were dead on their feet."

"Everybody was ready to shoot us down to see whether we were going to lose the next few games after winning the Telkom."
