The Buccaneers face the Chilli Boys on Wednesday night looking to keep pace at the top with rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
Should Chiefs suffer defeat to Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday in Polokwane, a win for Pirates over United would see Roger de Sa's men overtake Amakhosi at the summit.
But the Sea Robbers' Premiership record at Athlone Stadium is poor, with the defending PSL champions having last won at the venue in 2006 against Santos.
Klate, however, is confident Bucs can rectify that unfortunate statistic with a victory against lowly Chippa.
"Playing against teams from Cape Town especially at Athlone Stadium has always been a tough task for us," he told the club's official website.
"The wind and other adverse conditions usually favours the home teams but we are determined to put an end to our poor record at that stadium.
"I personally do not believe in history and records when it comes to football. I believe if we prepare well enough and show more hunger than the opposition we can win any match, anywhere and against any team."
Klate added: "Like Barcelona and (Lionel) Messi have shown in recent months - records are made to be broken - so why can't we do the same on Wednesday evening.
"This is a completely different ball game, we have ninety minutes to play and both teams have equal opportunity to win - hopefully it's us."
