Due to an ailing knee injury, Orlando Pirates midfielder Andile Jali has been forced to forfeit the opportunity to play in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

A press release from Pirates revealed Jali is only expected to return to training in two weeks' time, resulting in his omission from the squad list for the popular fixture at Soccer City on December 8.

The Bafana Bafana international twisted his knee when the Sea Robbers lost on penalties to Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout quarter-final at the Free State Stadium three weeks ago.

Other players dealt a similar fate as Jali are versatile defender Bheki Nzunga and Namibian striker Rudolph Bester.

But all is not lost for Buccaneers supporters. After being sidelined due to injuries for close to two weeks the Soweto giants can expect goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs and striker Thulasizwe Mbuyane at training, while long-term absentee Benni McCarthy is also not too far off from a return.

Josephs is back after treatment on a shoulder injury during the defeat in Celtic, which left Senzo Meyiwa playing in his place.

The club statement said Mbuyane had been out with illness and is only in light training with club doctors keeping a close eye on him, while McCarthy is set for his second friendly match this week on Friday as he recovers a hamstring strain.
