The 25-year-old left-back has one cap for South Africa that he earned against Tanzania in an international friendly in 2011.

He has yet to be selected by Gordon Igesund but is holding out hope that his club form will be enough to see him given another chance by the new national team boss.

Matlaba told SuperSport: "Every player dreams of playing in such a big tournament and I am no exception.

"I am ready to continue working hard and I know that if I do well for my team the chances of playing for the national team are very high."

Matlaba has impressed for Pirates this season and scored a dramatic long-range shot during Saturday's 2-0 victory over Bidvest Wits at Orlando Stadium that earned him the match accolade.

Following the clash, he added: "I was very happy to win the 'Man of the Match' award but the most important thing was the team getting the three points.

"I hope I will continue scoring goals for my team and help them retain the League title."

The clinical finish by Matlaba is nothing new, though, with the player scoring a similar goal against Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom Knockout recently.

"I do practice those long-range shots at training," he claimed.

"I have an advantage as I can use both feet to shoot. I have scored many goals from distance but I believe the one I scored against Wits was the best that I have scored from long-range."
