Cuthbert Malajila put the Team of Choice ahead after 18 minutes, although Gilbert Mapemba was able to respond for the hosts eight minutes later.

However, the Dube Birds' full-back soon turned from hero to villain as he received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Ruben Cloete.

Terrence Mandaza then went on to head the visitors back in front with three minutes remaining, while Frank Gyamfi put the game beyond all doubt in injury-time as he fired home from the edge of the area.

Zeca Marques' men finished the day 10th in the standings with 14 points from 12 games, while Maritzburg went three points behind Orlando Pirates and a further one adrift of leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Rainy conditions saw the players struggle to get going in the opening stages, although midway through the first-half the visitors drew first blood as Malajila took advantage of a lapse in concentration by the Birds defence to slot home Mohamed Awal's hopeful long ball.

Just a few minutes later the hosts managed to hit back as Mapemba tapped home from close range following a wonderful pass from Lefa Tsutsulupa.

However, Marques' men soon had their backs up against the wall as Mapemba was given his marching orders for a rash two-footed challenge.

Swallows almost found a way through after that moment, despite their numerical disadvantage, although Felix Obada could only flash his shot across the face of goal.

With just three minutes remaining though United regain the lead as Mandaza got on the end of Rueben Cloete's free-kick to head home, while Sarfo-Gyamfi wrapped up the points in added time after slotting home from Ryan De Jongh's pass.
