The Premiership clash was short on quality, but not on drama, as the two teams played in front of a spirited crowd of 6000 fans.

In the end, it was a case of too many mistakes for the men from Philippi, who lacked composure at crucial stages in the game.

It was Chippa who had the first chance of the game when Welcome Qalanto latched on to a Andile Mbenyane pass, but he was unable to beat Sander Westerveld in goal.

The Chippa defence was holding up well until the 17th minute when Khama Billiat found himself with only Daouda Kassally to beat and opened the scoring.

In only took the Chilli Boys a minute to respond, however, with Qalanto making no mistake this time as he collected a cross and bundled it in.

Chippa then took the lead in the 33rd minute after Ajax failed to clear a corner kick properly, allowing Larry Cohen to punish them with a well-struck volley.

Trailing at half time, the Urban Warriors came back strongly in the second period, needing only two minutes before levelling the scores when Kassally was beaten to the ball by Thulani Hlatshwayo, who headed it across the goal for Musa Lebuso to nod it in.

Just past the one-hour mark, Ajax took the lead in what proved to be the decisive score of the game. Kassally was dispossessed by Billiat after attempting to dribble his way out of trouble in his own goal box. The midfielder teed up Brazilian Wanderson, who chipped the ball over the keeper.

Chippa did have their chances to level the scores once again, most notably from an audacious chip from 35 yards out by Mbenyane that rattled the crossbar, but ultimately the Ajax defence held firm, earning them the bragging rights in the Cape Town derby.
