Marques: Disheartened

Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques has launched a stinging tirade at Victor Gomes, claiming Kaizer Chiefs won Tuesday's PSL encounter only because the referee had decided they would.

Amakhosi took a 2-1 lead into half-time as Reneilwe Letsholonyane fired home a brace either side of Lerato Chabangu's strike, before Bennett Chenene managed an equaliser for the Dube Birds with 60 minutes gone on the clock.

The game then headed into injury-time with the scores still level, although with seven minutes of an added nine gone, Lehlohonolo Majoro fired home the winner to leave Swallows empty handed.

Speaking after the Soweto derby a clearly furious Marques said: "We never lost this game, the game was stolen away from us," Marques said after the match.

"Unfortunately when you have both teams playing their hearts out and you have somebody who decides who the winner is going to be, it's very disheartening."

On the large chunk of injury-time shown by the fourth official, he added: "I'm still trying to work out where the nine minutes came from.

"I can understand two. But where did the (extra) seven minutes come from?

"It is just very sad, very sad. I don't want to have a go at referees. I have never done that and it is not my style, but I'm starting to see a certain pattern with the referee."

Marques was not alone in his assertion of the referee's performance, with Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter also bringing some of the night's events into question.

"I know what Zeca is alluding to with his comments and I think there were some strange decisions all the way through the game," Baxter said.
