The hosts drew first blood as Larry Cohen found the back of the net on 29 minutes before team-mate Martin Moonsamy put the ball in his own net in the 41st minute to restore parity.

The match looked to be heading for a stalemate before Andile Mbenyane popped up in the 87th minute to net the winner for the Chilli Boys.

Chippa made their intentions known early on, with James Okwuosa volleying over from 12 yards inside the opening two minutes.

Stars struck back with two chances of their own, Mogakolodi Ngele firing wide of the target in the eighth minute before Thuso Phala drew a good reaction save from goalkeeper Kassaly Daouda on 10 minutes.

The Chilli Boys piled on the pressure as the half progressed, Sindiso Ngothani hitting the defensive wall with his 30-yard free-kick on 19 minutes before Phala fired wide of the left-hand post in the 27th minute.

However, the hosts were not to be denied in the 29th minute when Cohen smashed a long-range effort into the top-left corner.

Dikwena's Benson Mhlongo fired over the bar just three minutes later, while Ngele's free-kick from 25 yards was blocked by the Chippa wall.

And the visitors were handed a way back into the contest on 41 minutes when Moonsamy's back pass caught keeper Kassaly unawares, rolling into the right-hand corner of goal.

Just one minute into the second half, Chippa earned a free-kick just outside the Stars area, but Mkhanyiseli Siwahla's 30-yard effort was saved by Siyabonga Mpontshane.

Siwahla saw another of his free-kicks punched clear of danger by Mpontshane on 57 minutes, while the visitors only managed to lodge a response in the 66th minute, Ngele firing over the bar from 20 yards out.

Stars had a perfect opportunity to claim the lead in the 73rd minute, but Mhlongo headed wide of the target from Phala's outswinging corner kick.

Just two minutes later, Chippa's Diego Brown shot wide from 25 yards, while Innocent Mkhabela failed to hit the mark with a right-footed effort from the right-hand channel.

And with the clock running down, it was the Chilli Boys who found the all important breakthrough on 86 minutes when Mbenyane headed home from Brown's well struck free-kick.

Stars created several chances in injury time, efforts from Patrick Malokase and Mkhabela failing to hit the target.
