Sikhosana: Critical of Igesund

Former Bafana Bafana striker Jerry Sikhosana pulled no punches in his assessment of the current team after they lost 1-0 to Zambia at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

Chipolopolo outplayed South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge and Sikhosana, who was nicknamed 'Legs of Thunder' in his heyday, saw red and blasted Bafana coach Gordon Igesund for his tactics.

"I listened to both coaches (Igesund and Herve Renard) after the match and I must say I was impressed with Renard," Sikhosana told Football411.

"To put it simple, Renard's philosophy is that if the opponents don't come at his team then it is an opportunity for them to attack. But with Igesund, I think he is more concerned about defending than attacking. I think Bafana play negative football," Sikhosana charged.

"I'm concerned that we worry about conceding goals than actually scoring them, so in a way it seems like it is fine when we are not conceding but we are not going to win games if we are not attacking. I say Bafana play negative football for that reason."

Sikhosana further alluded to the popular saying in football that the best way to defend is to attack.

"If we attack the opponents, then we don't have to worry about defending because we will always be in their half so they will worry about us and they won't have breathing space. Against Zambia we hardly created a chance and therefore, we couldn't score," he added.

"I believe in Gordon but the bottom line is we can only achieve results if we attack the opponents, not the other way round."
