The Al-Ain ace has missed some crucial penalties for the Black Stars over the years, most notably in the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals against Uruguay when he fluffed his second-half spot-kick with the scores at 1-1 as his team eventually went down on penalties after extra-time.
Gyan then re-lived the horror at AFCON 2012 in the semi-finals against Zambia as he saw his eighth-minute penalty saved by Kennedy Mweene as Chipolopolo eventually went on to win the match 1-0.
The former Sunderland hitman has now revealed his mother, who passed away last Tuesday, had urged him to stop taking kicking responsibility for the national team, and the 26-year-old is prepared to heed her warning.
"No. I will no longer take penalty kicks for Ghana," he told Accra-based radio station Asempa FM.
"My mother had advised me not to no longer take penalties. And now that she is gone, I will like take this advice. I will not go in to take penalties for Ghana."
