Igesund travelled to England to persuade the Canaries ace to commit himself to the South African national team, but the former Moroka Swallows tactician admits it is a lost cause.

"I believe he didn't show us the interest and passion we had expected from those wanting to play for Bafana Bafana," said Igesund.

"I got the feeling that he is not ready to commit to us so will not be pursuing that mission anymore."

Surman has already been capped four times for the England Under-21's, although he is eligible to represent South Africa, the country of his birth.
