Manyama: Missed penalty

Ajax Cape Town suffered a morale-sapping loss as they went down 1-0 to a Black Leopards side that hardly offered a threat on goal at the Cape Town Stadium on Sunday.

The only goal of the match came five minutes from time, Jacob Obaje accepting the gift off some poor defending from Urban Warriors.

The home side looked good in the first half, but it was only superficial as they failed to really make any serious inroads into the visitors' defence.

For their part, Leopards looked rather lacklustre in attack and didn't offer one serious threat in the opening 45 minutes as Ajax dominated possession.

Khama Billiat was the Capetonians' main danger in attack, but he never really threatened the opponents' goal as he failed to find composure when nearing the box.

The only real clear-cut chance on goal fell after 30 minutes, but from 25-yards and Lebohang Manyama's effort was always going to be ambitious, with the player unable to get the ball on target.

Ajax should have been 1-0 up just after the hour mark though when Siphamandla Sithole was ruled to have taken down Billiat inside the area. Manyama stepped up for the spot kick, but his penalty was tamely hit and provided an easy save for Lidoda Duvha keeper Azwindini Maphaha.

Failure to make the most of their possession and chances on goal proved to be costly to the Cape side as the Limpopo team scored with one of their only chances on goal.

Making it worse for Ajax was that the goal came from a defensive blunder, Aidan Jenniker's weak header allowing Michael Nkambule to set up Obaje for a tap-in 10 minutes from time.

The home team failed to muster much of a fight back as Leopards played out relatively easily to claim the three points down in the Mother City.
