The Buccaneers ace fired home on the stroke of half-time as the defending champions eventually held out for the win, which takes them one point below PSL leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who play SuperSport United later the same day.

Ea Lla Koto, meanwhile, sit eighth in the standings with 13 points from their opening nine league matches.

Pirates enjoyed the majority of possession in the opening exchanges with Senzo Meyiwa a virtual spectator in the Buccaneers goal barring one goalmouth scramble.

The Sowetans had the first real attempt on goal after 15 minutes when Lucky Legkwathi's instinctive strike shaved the crossbar after Myeni burst down the right flank and delivered.

Takesure Chinyama should have scored on the half-hour mark but his close range effort was well kept out by Stars keeper Kennedy Mweene.

Then Ea Lla Koto finally had an opportunity and a great one at that that when Luyolo Nomandela had his shot cleared off the line.

Then in first-half stoppage-time Myeni produced a moment of individual brilliance to score the eventual winner. His first touch was excellent but his strike even better, a rocket into the top corner.

The second half was less exciting. However, Dane Klate missed a gilt-edged chance in injury time when scoring would have been easier.

But ultimately the Sea Robbers will be satisifed at grinding out the win.
