Anthony Laffor had fired the Brazilians ahead after 15 minutes, but Junior Sibande was on hand for AmaTuks on the half-hour mark to earn the hosts a share of the spoils.

The result took Tuks level on points with fourth-placed Maritzburg United, who play Golden Arrows later the same day, while Sundowns remain rooted to the foot of the standings with just six points from their opening 10 matches.

Downs started the game brightly and dominated possession in the opening quarter, and after 15 minutes they stormed into the lead as Laffor, out of nothing, created himself some space before curling his effort into the back of the net.

Tuks had a great chance to respond moments later after winning a free-kick in a really promising position, but Ronald Ketjijere was unable to keep his effort down and the chance went begging.

With 30 minutes gone on the clock though, the hosts found a way back, Sibande drilling his shot goalwards, as the ball deflected off Eleazar Rodgers before finding the back of the net.

Aubrey Ngoma then forced a fine save from Wayne Sandilands as the half came to a close, while Jabulani Shongwe's darting run after the break resulted with a wayward shot which flew wide of the mark.

Midway through the second period Johan Neeskens men looked destined to regain the lead as Doctor Mampuru delivered a telling ball into the area, but neither Rodgers nor Teko Modise could get on the end of it.

The hosts began pressing hard for a winner in the closing stages, but Sandilands proved the difference as he saved efforts from Mame Niang, Ngoma and Sibande.
