Ritchie: Making an impression

Stuart Baxter is more than happy to have Tsepo Masilela and Keegan Ritchie on the books at Kaizer Chiefs, as they're all the defensive cover he needs.

Masilela and Ritchie are fighting it out to fill the void out on the left of defence for Chiefs after Jimmy Jambo was ruled out for the season due to surgery.

Ritchie seems to have the inside track after his recent performances for the Amakhosi.

However, former Getafe full-back Masilela has only recently returned to match-fitness after a spell out through injury.

"Tsepo has been an absolute professional in the team and I am impressed by his attitude in training," coach Baxter told Chiefs' official website.

"I spoke to him and explained to him that we will work with him to manage the process of integrating him into the team setup.

"We will have to look at giving him a few minutes here and there in the next couple of games depending on our strategy.

"It is unfortunate that we do not have the luxury of a Reserve League where we would assess his readiness."

He added: "I am certainly pleased with Keegan and I spoke to Tsepo about it. Keegan is familiar with our style."

With Bafana Bafana centre-back Morgan Gould also out of action until the 2013/14 campaign, it's thought Baxter may look to recruit over the festive break.

But the English tactician has dismissed talk of the Glamour Boys making a move for a defender in January, saying; "I am pleased with the depth we have in the squad.

"I feel that we have enough on our arsenal to cope with the demands of the modern game. We might look at promoting a youngster from the development as compared to going to the market."
