Lehlohonolo Majoro opened the scoring for Chiefs, before substitute Kingston Nkhatha fired in two late goals to make sure of the result.

Stuart Baxter's side dominated proceedings for much of the encounter with the likes Siphiwe Tshabalala and Reneilwe Letsholonyane bossing the midfield.

Tshabalala found Majoro, who slotted home with a first-time effort, to open the scoring in the 14th minute with his fourth of the season.

The hosts finally doubled their lead with 15 minutes to left to play, after a long ball from Chiefs' defence found Nkhatha, who beat the offside trap and headed past Pavels Steinbors.

Six minutes later, Nkhatha scored his second of the night, after another long ball found the striker unmarked to drill his effort past Steinbors at the near post.

Itumeleng Khune was rarely troubled between the sticks and would've been pleased with the performance of Keegan Ritchie ahead of him, the full-back having earned a rare start following Jimmy Jambo's lengthy injury lay-off.

The midweek success sees Amakhosi remain at the top of the Premiership standings on 21 points, now unbeaten in nine league matches.

For Abafana Bes'thende, it was their fourth PSL defeat of the season which leaves them just four points off the relegation zone.

The Durban outfit will now be sweating Wednesday's clashes as Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu are all in action and able to close the gap on Manqoba Mngqithi's men.
