The striker went under the knife recently after he suffered ligament damage in Moroka Swallows' 3-0 victory over Orlando Pirates on September 1, and was only expected back early next year.

However, the 34-year-old Bafana Bafana forward said he is edging closer to a return to the field, and believes he could be back before the Christmas break.

"The doctors said I will probably be out long enough to miss the tournament (AFCON), but I have been getting better every day and I may return by the end of November," Nomvethe told Football411.

"I think by then I will start doing light training and some physio, which means if things go well I can still be available for the tournament.

"I don't want to rush, but I also want to play in the AFCON."

Nomvethe, who has earned 81 caps for the South Africa national team since he made his debut in a 2-0 loss to Trinidad and Tobago back in May 1999, says he is pushing hard to be in Gordon Igesund's squad for the tournament on home soil.

"I know I will be back soon, because I want to play. I know I have to push very hard to make this happen, but I'm not going to give up on my dream to play in the AFCON," he added.

Meanwhile, the vastly experienced hitman, who won the PSL's Golden Boot last season, has shared his views on Bafana's group A opponents - Cape Verde Islands, Angola and Morocco - saying every team deserves respect.

"(The group) doesn't look that tough, but I have learnt through my years in football that there are no easy games," he added.
