The Zimbabwe international suffered the horrific injury against Bidvest Wits in October following a dangerous challenge by former team-mate Tinashe Nengomasha in the Telkom Knockout.

Doctors had been waiting for the swelling to come down before they could proceed with surgical measures, and Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung confirmed the news.

"It will probably be a year before he is able to get on the field again," he told SuperSport.

The injury means Keegan Ritchie is likely to get a prolonged run in the side as he proves to be the only recognisable cover at left-back.
