Palmgren: Stuttering start with Usuthu

The chance to turn around an otherwise ailing season will be up for grabs for both AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns when they clash in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon.

Usuthu and Downs have been equally woeful in the PSL this term, with each having registered just one victory in their opening eight encounters to sit in a three-way tie at the bottom of the standings.

The Ziwa Mo, though, has afforded the pair the chance to focus on the positives, with Roger Palmgren's men having booked their place in the last-eight with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Platinum Stars.

The Brazilians, meanwhile, progressed past the last-16 courtesy of a 1-0 victory at home against the University of Pretoria, although Johan Neeskens' men will be on the road this weekend as they travel to the King Zwelithini Stadium.

In team news, Palmgren has no suspension concerns to deal with, although Marc Van Heerden is just one booking away from picking up a one-match ban.

For Downs, rising star Abel Mabaso is set to continue in the first XI, the midfielder the only player in the team to have started every game this season, although he's had to fill in at right-back on occasion following injuries in key areas.

Punch Masenamela, though, will play no role as he misses out through suspension.
