The last year had not been great for the South Africa skipper, who struggled to make the Tottenham side after moving to London in January 2011, with a subsequent loan move to Reading also not working out as he was struck down by long term injury.
But his loan move to Greece is working out well, and on the weekend the former SuperSport United man was in action as his side beat Platanias 2-0 to secure second place in the standings behind Olympiakos.
Khumalo is expected to play a vital role for Bafana at the African Cup of Nations in January, and his fine form in Europe will be great news to coach Gordon Igesund.
For the player, being able to turn out on a regular basis has been a welcome change.
"I am obviously enjoying my football at PAOK and the team is doing really well, currently lying second on the table," Khumalo told Sowetan.
"The most important issue for me is that I am getting regular game time, week in and week out, in what I believe is a very competitive and physical league.
"Although at Spurs I was training daily with some of the best players in the world and playing regular reserve team games, what I really needed was competitive games on a regular basis, which is what I am thankfully getting at PAOK."
