The latest speedbump for the 29-year-old came in August when he was forced to undergo surgery to repair his torn Achilles tendon after he was injured at training.
Gould has since played two games following his return, including the 3-0 victory over Bidvest Wits, in which he himself got on the score-sheet.
The former SuperSport United captain says the injury did little to harm his love for the game, and that he is determined to come back stronger than before..
"I still need to work hard, but I'm happy to be back. Back in August, the most painful thing was getting to the dressing room that day and they broke it down to me in terms of how long it's going to take to recover and then they dropped the bombshell; six months," Gould told Football411.
"But the news didn't break me down because I'm not the type of person who lives on what could or should have been. I live in the now. I couldn't change the situation so I needed to accept it and that's what I did.
"It was another blow - it was another setback in my career, but setbacks have made me a stronger person. I understood what happened, so it didn't hurt me," he continued.
Apart from missing the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations through injury, the tough-as-nails defender was also forced to watch from the sidelines with an ankle injury as South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
Meanwhile, Gould, who won three league titles with SuperSport United, says Chiefs can win the championship this season provided they focus on their own game rather the chasing pack.
"This is football and you can't predict the future, but we must ignore what others are saying or doing and we must have the belief that we can do it," he concluded.
