Golden Arrows striker Thamsanqa Gabuza believes their quest to secure a top-eight finish starts when they host Free State Stars on Saturday.

A win for the Durban side will at best lift them to 10th, with the eighth-placed side University of Pretoria just four points above them.

It will take at least two or three victories to get them in to the top-half of the Premier Soccer League table, depending also on other results.

Abafana Bes'Thende are also just four points above bottom of the table side Chippa United, and could be drawn further into the relegation quagmire if they draw or lose to the lively Ea Lla Koto.

Nevertheless, Gabuza is confident that they can beat Stars, a team with 11 more points than them and sitting pretty in fourth position.

This confidence comes after Arrows whipped Vodacom League side Vardos FC 4-0 in a Nedbank Cup match. Gabuza scored the first goal in that game, and missed a sitter, too.

"We know the kind of football that Free State Stars plays, but they don't usually cause problems for us when we play them at home and we're determined to reach the top eight," he told Isolezwe.

"Regarding our game against Vardos, we are happy because we are through to the next round of the Nedbank Cup," added Gabuza. "Getting the man-of-the-match award has encouraged me to work even harder than before.

"I'm pleased with the way I've been playing but I have to continue working in order to reach the level I want to reach."
