The game ended 0-0 after 120 minutes and Maritzburg beat the hosts 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out which Sheppard missed as he was subbed off in the 95th minute.

Tuks striker Mame Niang and Thokozani Sekotlong missed their spot kicks while all the Maritzburg players converted theirs.

"I would have taken a penalty," Sheppard told Football411.com enthusiastically. "I never shy away from that.

"But the boys did well and we are through to the next round. It was a tough game against a tough team.

"They are a very fit and very mobile bunch. They play a direct game of footy and don't give up. I respect teams who are so direct and Steve Barker is doing a good job with them.

"I can't say now that we are hoping to go all the way. Cup games are unpredictable and there is a winner, so both sides go all out and that makes it tougher.

"It's better to approach it one game at a time and see what happens."
