Gamildien: Key man for Celtic

There are several 'David v Goliath' match-ups in the Nedbank Cup, but not many of them are likely to produce any upsets, with the possible exception of the Bloemfontein Celtic versus Milano game.

The match takes place at the Free State Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

In facing an on-form Milano team, Celtic will have every reason to feel worried that they could become one of the first of the big guns to face elimination.

The Cape side may only have won of their last four games, but did secure victory in the most recent match, a 2-0 derby win over FC Cape Town.

The booked their place in the last 32 by edging out Thanda Royal Zulu 1-0 after extra time in a qualifying match.

Sitting up in third spot on the NFD table, on their debut season in the league after promotion last season, it been a dream campaign thus far for coach Theo Hempe and his home-grown side.

Milano certainly have the pace and fire-power to take advantage of any complacency from Celtic, with top NFD goal-scorer Lesvin Stoffels likely to ask some serious questions of the home defence.

Experienced midfielder Keenin Lesch has just returned from a long-term injury and could provide the creativity and spark needed, as could wingers Devon Saal and Yusuf Abrahams.

"We do care and we want to try go all the way and try to win it. It is a great opportunity for us. They don't come any harder in the PSL than this club [Celtic]. If our goal is to go to the PSL, these are the places we have to go to and make it there," Lesch told backpage.txt.

Celtic meanwhile will be looking for inspiration from industrious midfielder Ruzaigh Gamildien, a player once on Milano's books.

Up front, former Santos man Lennox Bacela has bagged five goals this season, with his striker partner, Lerato Manzini, on six.

The Free State side go into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw away to Ajax Cape Town, and currently occupy sixth spot on the Absa Premiership table, having won two and drawn two of their last five matches.
