Chiefs, who had allowed Black Leopards to assume control of the match in the latter stages of the first stanza, showed superior tactical acumen in the second period, which helped secure the win.

Mashamaite opened Chiefs' account in just the fourth minute of the match, after capitalising on some characteristically poor defending from Leopards.

The Leopards defenders, who had been guilty of the proverbial ball-watching after a Chiefs corner kick, could only look on in dismay as Mashamaite tapped in for the visitors.

Leopards were still very much in contention in the first half, but some heroic goal-keeping from Itumeleng Khune spared Chiefs on the 22-minute mark, when Abbas Amidu latched onto a beautiful through ball and took a powerful strike at goal.

The initial deflection off Khune hit the left-hand upright and the follow-up effort was remarkably saved by the player they call the Spider Kid.

Leopards' efforts to exert some pressure were finally rewarded when Joshua Obaje scored the equaliser in the 41st minute of the match.

Obaje, seemingly unmarked, latched onto a neat cross into the 18-yard area and the finishing was clinical.

Even though Chiefs looked more alert in the second stanza, it was only after Nkhatha netted for the Amakhosi in the 65th minute that spectators developed a sense that this match would be won by the league leaders.

The Chiefs player latched on to magnificent through ball from Reneilwe Letsholonyane before blasting home just inside the 18-yard area.

Leopards keeper Azwindini Maphaha had absolutely no hope of saving the shot.

As the match drew closer to its conclusion the Black Leopards fans didn't budge, as they still had hope that a draw could be achieved.

That hope diminished when Baloyi blasted home from close range to seal what was ultimately an emphatic win for the visitors, which also served as a statement to any other team in the league which still has title aspirations.
