According to Pirates physiotherapist John Williams, a report from a specialist has advised Sangweni to sit out for up to six weeks.
The club revealed that the Bucs centre-back, who recently starred for South Africa at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, has been complaining 'of a pain on his right knee' recently.
Sangweni now joins fellow defenders Rooi Mahamutsa and Robyn Johannes on the sidelines for the Sea Robbers.
