Oupa Manyisa scored the only goal of the match, after just two minutes, but try as they might the Bucs frontline could not beat Ronwen Williams in the Matsatsantsa goal a second time - with the keeper named man-of-the-match for his efforts, which included saving a second-half penalty.

After the match, De Sa said: "We made it hard, we made it difficult for ourselves. I thought we could have gone two-nil up in the first ten minutes really.

"We knew it was going to be a battle, the ball was up in the air the whole day you could have watched the game from outside the stadium. Everything was long throws, long balls."

Andile Jali wasted a chance to extend his side's lead when he saw his penalty after 72 minutes easily saved, but it was maybe a case of justice served with Davies Nkausu's foul on Daine Klate clearly outside the box.

De Sa added: "There wasn't much football really because it was very direct and we never really played out of it and I think if we had scored a second goal maybe things would have settled down a bit but we didn't and it made it difficult, even with the missed penalty.

"But it was probably a good time to miss a penalty when you win."

He continued: "It was a good start for us, obviously important to win the game. SuperSport are tough, their aerial game, their direct game and they are good at it, they pumped the balls in there and are always going to get a chance or two but Senzo Meyiwa never really made a save and their goalkeeper was man-of-the-match so maybe we won it convincingly, we had the better chances without a doubt."

De Sa also shed some light on the injuries to Moeneeb Josephs and Benni McCarthy.

He added: "They got injured on the last day of training yesterday. Two little incidents that are just freak, but we need them to recover as quickly as possible and I just hope they can bounce back quickly because we've got a horrid time-table right now.

"We've got games every midweek and every weekend we've got a lot of travelling to Africa as well so we need everybody on board."
