Chivuta was on duty with the Zambia team for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and recently returned to training with Ea Lla Kota.
He joined the Stars three years ago in 2010 and his current contract runs until the end of the 2012/13 season.
Last year Chivuta helped Chipolopolo to their first-ever Africa Cup title but admitted that he had not received any offers recently despite his pedigree.
"We work on a contract basis and my contract is coming to an end at the end of this year. Right now I am working hard for a place in the team, but at the end of the day it is the coach's decision," the 29-year old told the Free State Stars official website.
"It all depends on the coach. If he wants me to stay then I will stay, if he doesn't I will look at my options.
"I have not really had any options because I have been away with the AFCON squad. I am back now and it is for my agent to start looking, but I am happy here."
Stars are fourth on the PSL table with 25 points, 10 less than leaders Kaizer Chiefs, and will kick-off the second-half of their campaign this Tuesday against Chippa United.
