The 33-year-old winger, who began his career with the School of Excellence, completed his move from Golden Arrows to the Team of Choice on Wednesday.
And after a productive season under the German Mentor in 2011, is excited to renew that partnership.
"I have a good relationship with the coach. He brought me to Arrows from Platinum Stars and I am excited to work with him once again," Sheppard told Football411.com.
"He knows my style of play and he is aware of the best position to put me in."
Sheppard has signed a one-year deal with an option to renew for a further 12 months at the club.
"It was an easy decision to make for me because Maritzburg showed belief in me. Things were not going well for me at Arrows. I have hardly played this season compared to last year when I featured quite a lot.
"Game time is very important for me, I am really itching to play."
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man says he is confident of fitting in with the players at Maritzburg.
"This is a good team with some really good players. I have played with many of the guys before. I have spent many years playing with a guy like Delron Buckley so I know things will go well here.
"There is a different dynamic in the team, Maritzburg are near the top of the table and you never know what is possible in the second half of the season," Sheppard concluded.
The Team of Choice are currently in Johannesburg for a training camp before the start of the second round of league fixtures - that start on the 12th of February.
