The Amakhosi players returned from the festive break at the beginning of January and have been undergoing fitness training, while last week they left for a 10-day training camp in Potchefstroom.

And despite missing the likes of Itumeleng Khune, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Bernard Parker, who are with South Africa at the Africa Cup of Nations, Baxter says his team are looking in good shape ahead of next month's Premiership restart.

"It's been good to be back and we are all looking forward to the second round of the season," the coach told Chiefs' official website.

"The players and everyone are excited to be back despite having seven players away with the national team.

"This week we worked with 17 players in the absence of the seven players in the national team. We are also waiting for Morgan Gould to join us in full training during the camp."

Speaking of his intentions while on camp, Barker added: "We are going to work a lot on some attacking aspects of our game such as transitions."

"I would have loved to get the messages across even to the players in the national team but this is a situation that we cannot change and we have to work with what we have."
