At Swallows, Bhengu starred as a forward and netted twice against Kaizer Chiefs in the 2008/09 Premiership season, which catapulted the youngster into the limelight.
After a change of coaching staff at the Dube Birds, German tactician Rainer Zobel utilised the frontman at right-back.
Bhengu also played regularly for the South Africa Under-23 side under the guidance of Shakes Mashaba.
"I'm happy to be back in the game, I really have to thank my agent Walter (Mokoena)," Bhengu told Football411.
"It was frustrating sitting at home and doing nothing... well, I was keeping fit but nothing beats training with competitive players and playing for a purpose.
"The players, managers, everyone welcomed me and I feel at ease already. The only thing to do now is to get match fit and repay the club with a few goals. I can't wait for the season to restart."
The Chilli Boys start the second half of the PSL campaign on February 13 against Free State Stars.
