The teenager joined Amakhosi from eThekwini Coastal six months ago, but has spent his time playing for the reserves as he continues his education under coach Stuart Baxter.

A groin injury had also disrupted his progress at the club, but the 18-year-old is confident he will soon be gracing the PSL when the second half of the season kicks off in February.

"It has been a good experience being in one of the biggest clubs in the country," Hlongwa told the club's official website.

"I have not yet featured but I have learnt a lot working with the Technical Team and the likes of Bernard Parker, Lehlohonolo Majoro, Kaizer (Motaung JNR), Sthe (Sthembiso Ngcobo) and Kingston (Nkhatha).

"I did not struggle to settle in Johannesburg having arrived from Durban because Chiefs is a family club. My team-mates were also helpful. I struggled a little bit with a groin injury but I am now ok. I am going to step up when we come back."

Chiefs currently top the Premiership standings, a position that comes as a major boost to the Soweto giants, given their under achievements last season.

"Given the circumstances of last season everyone here is determined to contribute to the success of the club. It is the will to succeed that is a driving force in the team," Hlongwa concluded.
