Kaizer Chiefs boss Stuart Baxter was happy to have secured all three points in his side's final PSL clash ahead of the break for AFCON, but admitted the performance left a lot to be desired.

Goals from Matthew Rusike and Bernard Parker sealed the 2-0 win over AmaZulu, but the league's bottom side more than held their own for large chunks of the match.

And it took a mistake in the Usuthu defence for Rusike to open the scoring, before a moment of magic from substitute Parker, to condemn Craig Rosslee's side to their eighth defeat of the season.

After the match, Baxter said: "I am pleased that we closed the year with a win after playing two consecutive draws against Orlando Pirates and University of Pretoria.

"I do feel though that we should have played better. Our passing game was very poor in some instances. I will have to speak to the players during the debrief session."

He added: "I also wish to congratulate my colleague Craig Rosslee for the work he has done since taking over. AmaZulu have improved a lot to the side that we gave six in the opening game of the season. It was a tough game as AmaZulu put a good fight."

Willard Katsande was dismissed in the 86th minute for picking up his second booking, with Baxter admitting: "Willard (Katsande) has been living on the edge. He needed to be careful after getting the first caution. I do feel though the first caution was harsh."

He was, however, delighted that Parker came off the bench to score his ninth goal of the season.

"We have been screaming for such quality and one has to say that goal was top class and definitely sealed the game for us. He will probably leave the stadium limping after getting another knock.

"We are on top of the log and credit should go to the players and the supporters for the support they have given us since we started against Sundowns back in August.

"The supporters showed a lot of confidence in the team and this definitely rubbed off with the players. I would like to wish them all the best during the festive season. We need them back next year all in good health."
