The Premiership's bottom two clubs could not be separated at the Philippi Stadium as Andile Khumalo had given Usuthu the lead after just 17 minutes only for Welcome Qalanto to level matters for the hosts seven minutes after the break.

Usuthu scored the opener after 15 minutes of play from their first real attack on the opposition goal. Tidy interplay in Chippa's penalty area led to a fairly simple finish for Andile Khumalo.

The Chilli Boys struggled to sustain pressure in the final third and were restricted to shots from long range. They came close to levelling the score as Tshepo Tomanyane's swerving shot caught Kapini off guard, but the AmaZulu goalkeeper did well to tip the ball behind.

Chippa started the second half much better and were rewarded for their new found urgency when they levelled just five minutes after the break. Mkhanyseli Siwahla put the ball into the box, allowing Welcome Qalanto a routine shot from 10 metres out.

The upbeat atmosphere from the home fans did not prevent AmaZulu from almost taking the lead when Khumalo beat Daudoa Kassally to the ball. The midfielder failed to convert his second attempt, though, as he headed just wide.

Kapini once again came to Usuthu's rescue as he kept Qalanto from claiming his second of the afternoon. The home side came should have taken the lead with 20 minutes to go, but Siwahla failed to keep his shot on target.

Both sides had a couple of half chances in the closing stages, with Chippa coming closest when Qalanto headed towards goal from a Diego Brown cross, but failed to alter the scoreline.

With both teams sharing the spoils, the result leaves AmaZulu and Chippa 15th and 16th respectively with half the PSL season already completed.
