Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp feels his side's recent results are not a true reflection of their performances following their third successive PSL defeat.

The Team of Choice went down 2-1 to Orlando Pirates on Friday, with Ruben Cloete having been sent off either side of the Buccaneers' goals, Cuthbert Malajila scoring a late consolation for the hosts.

The result followed on from back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Ajax Cape Town and Platinum Stars respectively, leaving United in fourth and eight points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs, who have a game in hand.

Middendorp, though, feels his side deserved more from those matches and speaking after the Nelson Mandela Bay encounter, he said: "We not getting returns for our hard work even against Platinum Stars we came out wondering what happened."

On the red card, which came following a high two-footed tackle from the Maritzburg man, Middendorp added: "In my opinion Ruben Cloete was the man of the match for as long as he was on the pitch and the red card I want to have a look at it again."
