The Buccaneers were leading 1-0 through Oupa Manyisa, before the Team of Choice went down to ten men following Ruben Cloete's sending off.
Andile Jali then doubled the Sea Robbers' lead shortly after the restart.
Cuthbert Malajila left nerves jangling for the Ghost in the final few minutes after firing home for the hosts, although Bucs were able to hold out for the three vital points that took them level at the top of the PSL standings.
De Sa, though, was less than impressed with his side's overall performance, saying: "It wasn't a very good performance let's be honest and it's probably my worst performance at Pirates but we managed to scratch a win.
"There is a lot of work to be done, hopefully we can improve in our next match.
"It wasn't pretty today we gave the ball away to cheaply and our final third was terrible today but we got the three points.
"At halftime I warned the guys that we gave away our 1-0 lead against Chiefs and today against a 10-man team we should have done a lot better."
