Botes: Bagged a brace

Platinum Stars emerged from their 10-goal thriller against Golden Arrows with a 6-4 win at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday evening.

Arrows had battled back from two-nil down to take a 4-2 lead into the half-time break but Stars found a further four goals in the second half to secure all three points.

Mogakolodi Ngele opened the scoring in the sixth minute with Henrico Botes adding a second from close range after 14 minutes.

Norman Smith then pulled a goal back with 19 minutes played before Musa Bilankulu netted two goals in quick succession on 27 and 29 minutes to put his side into the lead for the first time in the match.

Bhekisizwe Nkosi then rifled home with 36 minutes played after latching on to a rebounded effort from Smith that was blocked by Tshepo Gumede to put his side further into the lead with Botes pulling a goal back eight minutes into the second half from the penalty spot after Thamsanqa Mkhize had upended Mogakolodi Ngele.

Ngele then netted an equaliser with 59 minutes played before two goals in injury time ensured Stars secured the win.

Siphelele Mthembu and Thuso Phala were the goalscorers that saw the hosts record their ninth win from 14 matches leaving them third in the PSL standings with Arrows stuck in 13th place with 13 points from 14 games, some 15 points worse off than their opponents this weekend.
