Pretoria University v Chippa

Barker: In a slump

University of Pretoria will be desperate to snap their five-match winless streak when they host Chippa United at the Tuks Stadium on Saturday.

AmaTuks began the season in stunning form and at one stage found themselves second in the standings in what is their debut outing in South Africa's top flight.

However, Steve Barker's men have gone well off the boil of late and last recorded a win in October, a 2-1 success over Bloemfontein Celtic, but they have since followed up that result with two defeats and three draws to sit in fifth spot, 12 points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Fellow PSL newbies Chippa, meanwhile, find themselves in the thick of the relegation scrap, with the goalless draw against double-treble champions Orlando Pirates on Wednesday doing much to boost their confidence, but little in terms of extending the gap between themselves and the bottom two.

In fact, the Cape outfit are only out of the drop zone on goal difference and could slip down into the basement by the end of the weekend.

On the team front, Tuks have no suspension concerns, but Bongani Zungu and Mpho Matsi will have to avoid bookings if they are to escape automatic one-match bans.

Chippa, meanwhile, have the same concern, with Brent Carelse currently on three yellow cards and just one away from a suspension.
