The Urban Warriors have slumped 13th in the standings with just three wins from their 13 matches played.

They come into this match with just one win in six, a 3-2 win over PSL newbies Chippa United, while they were thoroughly outplayed in their 3-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in midweek.

The Team of Choice, conversely, are enjoying a superb season, their six match unbeaten run only coming to an end with a narrow 1-0 loss to Platinum Stars last time out.

While Ajax boss Jan Pruijn has had to deal with boardroom squabbles that have clearly spilled over to his playing staff amid reports of player bust-ups, Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp is quietly going about his business.

He was widely criticised for releasing a number of big-name players from his squad at the end of last season, but is delighted by the way his new group has gelled.

He told the Sowetan recently: "We changed the squad completely. We got criticised, especially me, about selling big talents like Diyo Sibisi, Mor Diouf, Kurt Lentjies and Khulegani Madondo.

"The players also wanted to leave to (have a) go at bigger challenges. Whereas before we'd tried to keep them, this time I said 'go!' The next step was assembling a team that will give us success in the end and I think that is how it's worked out."

Pruijn, meanwhile, gave a damning assessment of his side's performance against Amakhosi.

He added: "I said to the players after the Chiefs game: 'I respect you a lot, but after this performance we must admit that we are not good enough'.

"If I look at the squad I have now - how many real winners do we have, how many real leaders are there? I think not too many."
