The defending PSL champions have now failed to record a victory on the Cape Flats since they beat Santos there in 2006, while they lost ground to arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs at the league summit.

The Buccaneers are now three points behind Amakhosi ahead of their Soweto derby this weekend, with the Glamour Boys having beaten Ajax Cape Town the previous evening.

The game got off to a frenetic start with chances aplenty in the opening stages. James Okwuoso headed over the bar from a corner for the hosts, while Manti Moholo saw his shot from 10 yards out superbly tipped over by Leopards goalkeeper Daouda Kassaly.

Larry Cohen then sent his long-range shot just wide of the target before Thabo Matlaba had Kassaly scampering across his goal with another effort from distance.

Msekelei Mvalo was unlucky not to score just before the break as his header was cleared off the line by Pirates winger Daine Klate.

Cohen again went close with another fierce shot from 30 yards that swerved just wide before the Sea Robbers began to dominate proceedings.

Benni McCarthy almost broke the deadlock with a low shot, but Kassaly was equal to the task, pulling off a brilliant save to palm it over the bar.

Leopards, though, still created chances with Okwuoso being denied by a fine diving save from Senzo Meyiwa, but Bucs kept up the pressure without failing to trouble Kassaly.

However, The Niger keeper had one final contribution to make as he made another top one-handed save to keep Oupa Manyisa's curling shot from just outside the area finding the top corner.
