The Buccaneers ace picked up the injury while on international duty with Bafana Bafana in September, limping off in the first-half of the friendly against Brazil in Sao Paulo.
However, South Africa's all-time record goal-scorer returned to action last week in a friendly match against Moroka Swallows, and the 35-year old is now looking forward to making his PSL comeback in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend.
"I'm ready for action, and it could not have come at a better time," he said after Friday's practice game against the Dube Birds.
McCarthy's return also comes as a big boost to Bafana coach Gordon Igesund, who has delayed naming of his 2013 Africa Cup of Nations squad due to a large number of injuries.
"Naturally I'm keeping an eye on all the injuries," said Igesund, "and I expect to have a much clearer picture of how matters stand within the next 10 days or so."
McCarthy, though, says his focus is primarily on Pirates' season, adding: "I'm not even thinking about playing for Bafana right now.
"If they want me, they know where to find me.
"But my thoughts right now are focused on playing for Pirates and proving my fitness," concluded McCarthy, who scored three goals in two appearances against Amakhosi last season.
